The complete project is what most of our customers are looking for, strip out the kitchen, prepare the electrics, plaster the walls, all to create the right setting for the kitchen to go into. Add into that internal building work, coordinating windows, doors, bi-fold doors and boilers, as well as finishing off with wall tiling and either ceramic or luxury vinyl tiling. We can take care of it all so you don’t have to worry about it.
These are our three main options for kitchen doors.
– Made to measure
Henry burbidge established his woodworking company in 1867. Evolving over the decades it now has the fifth generation at the helm. We are still family owned; still manufacturing in the UK and still drawing on a rich woodworking heritage with an extensive collection of kitchens that spans timeless classic timber styles, to those that boast the latest contemporary designs and finishes.
Thanks to this legacy of working with wood, we boast unrivalled expertise when it comes to crafting your kitchen; a talented team of designers operate from our manufacturing site in Coventry, working alongside long-serving, highly-skilled craftsmen with an intimate knowledge of production methods. Whether producing high quality timber doors, hand-spraying to reveal the subtle beauty of wood graining or using premium technology to create cleverly-engineered laminate finishes, you can rest assured that specialists are at work.Of course, don’t just take our word for it – we are proud to be awarded the prestigious Manufacturing Guild Mark by the Worshipful Company of Furniture Makers, the mark of excellence for furniture manufacturers, demonstrating the high level of craftsmanship that goes into producing our kitchens.
At Burbidge, we are also proud of our commitment to producing such innovative, premium quality kitchens with due care and respect for our environment. Our timbers and timber products are sourced from well managed forestry in Europe and North America and we use paints that guarantee colour-fastness whilst having a low environmental impact.
But above all, it is our passionate understanding of what makes a great kitchen that puts you in safe hands, as managing director Ben Burbidge concludes: “I look at the Burbidge of today with great pride; we are a skilled team with a passion for design and a commitment to leading the way in kitchen manufacturing – your kitchen is in safe hands.”
As you can see, Burbidge have a history and passion in timber. Hence, they have a great range of beautiful solid wood doors, in either in frame, classic, or Simply Burbidge ranges available painted to any colour. They also offer more contemporary slab and handleless ranges in typical gloss colours or in more contemporary matt finishes, sprayed to a colour of your choice. An important aspect of our business ethos is being able to offer to update your old kitchen. A refresh, as we call it, often requires door sizes that are not available off the shelf. To ensure that we can refresh almost any kitchen, we also have suppliers who specialise in made to measure doors.
Customers often think about door sizes in terms of their width, but it’s the height that causes the mischief, as some manufacturers use alternative cabinet heights or door and drawer combinations. Most independents work off the 140/570/715 matrix with 720 high units and these are the off the shelf options available. However, the large kitchen chains often use their own versions or different cabinet heights. We do also encounter some older or more unusual kitchens with their own unique idea of sizing.
Typically, when we price a kitchen refresh, we use a made to measure, vinyl door, which give a great flexibility of styles and colours. For customers looking for a gloss finish, we typically use an acrylic door, offering a more mirror like finish and greater lifetime than a gloss vinyl.
It’s not usually just the doors that customers want to change, as the cornice, pelmet, plinths and end panels are often required to make the transformation more complete. These options are all looked at on survey and are all available to match the door of your choice.
As part of updating your kitchen we can also replace worktops, appliances, sinks and taps and quite often take out old open shelf units and replace them to give more storage. There are some limitations to a refresh and it’s never the same as a completely new kitchen, but it can give a great improvement without all the cost and disruption of starting over.Just as with anything else that we do, the option is there for us to simply supply the doors etc. or for us to take care of all the work for you, the choice is yours.
The key to a refresh working though, is that the kitchen itself is right for you, as it’s not really an option to start moving things around. Customers will sometimes ask for us to look at both the refresh and the new kitchen option, so that we can show what could be achieved and what the cost difference would be.Our job is to guide you through the options and bring all the elements together for your kitchen.
